Description: The Microsoft Research Centre for Social Natural User Interfaces (SocialNUI) is a place of collaborative research for creating and understanding innovative Natural User Interfaces (NUI) that facilitate human communication, collaboration and social interaction. Welcome to the Microsoft Research Centre for SocialNUI at the University of Melbourne. We are an academic–industry research centre located within the School of Computing and Information Systems and part of the Interaction Design Laboratory at the University of Melbourne. NUIs are technologies that support ‘natural’ human interactions, such as body-movement, speech, touch and gaze. In the SocialNUI research centre, we focus on the social aspects of NUI interactions. How can NUIs be designed to better support collaboration, engagement and interactions between people? We investigate this question in a variety of contexts through a range of exciting research projects.
